The correct term is “Ms.” And I already have a name, thank you.
We’ve all seen the shirts that say, “Future Mrs. Timberlake,” “Future Mrs. Pitt,” “Future Mrs. Pattinson,” etc. Young boys aren’t taught that their entire identities and happiness center around a relationship with a woman. Why do we teach young women that their identities and worth are so tentative and conditional, and dependent upon the validation of a man? Why must the markers of a woman’s identity change so drastically in response to her relationship status? Why is a woman defined by her relationships, and how society views those relationships?
I love this.
I’m a supporter of women’s rights but I can’t help but laugh my ass off whenever I hear the point of view of a feminazi.
Because. If you marry Justin Timberlake you will have:
- Money. And fucking lots of it.
- Probably some intense healthcare.
- A house.
- A chance to go and get an education, or get into the entertainment business, if that’s your thing.
- A SUPER MEGA AWESOME FOXY HOT HUSBAND.
I can understand though, if these psycho-feminists think that those are not things that women want. Well, straight women. Lesbians would want super mega awesome foxy hot wives. In six states.
U mad?
The point: Way to miss it entirely. And holy shit, this post got to 600 notes over my vacation.. here’s hoping previous commentary was less moronic than the last two in this thread.
Honestly, I thought this was a joke. Some people think way to much into things. No one who wears a shirt that says ‘I’m the Next Mrs. Kutcher’ is actually a drone who believes that if she doesn’t marry Ashton Kutcher, or a man in general, she would die. No, it’s common knowledge that no human on this earth needs to be married to exist. I know many single people in their sixties who are still living. Those shirts are fun. Yes, when I was young, I had a poster of Justin Timberlake on my wall, or a photo or Aaron Carter, or whoever. I dreamed to be the next “Mrs. Celebrity”, because I was a thirteen year old girl once, and thirteen year old girls allowed to be cute and dream silly dreams. Better than pining over a boy in school that they would actually have a chance with and get their hearts broken when they are shut down, or worse. Get pregnant. I know it’s a slim chance, but girls that age need to stay away from a long list further than these sorts of t-shirts.
That being said, as a female, I am outraged that women are treated differently in society, at work, at school, wherever, but I would also be hypocritical by saying I wouldn’t want a war draft to be open for females. So, I can’t claim any equal rights for women, because yes I’m a spineless girl who would just rather not. But I can admit that, and I’m an adult, so I can. BUT, as a feminist, don’t you want what is best for women? It’s not to say women NEED men. Moreso, that as sexually-active/romantic/traditional/whatever heterosexual women, we want men. We are attracted to men. And as women, we don’t need men. We WANT men. And as women, do we not want THE BEST? And as thirteen year old girls, LIKE thirteen year old boys, I’m sure, isn’t marrying a celebrity or ‘prince charming’ figure THE BEST?
Sure, as a 22 year old, I’m not interested in wearing silly novelty t-shirts about my celebrity crushes. And I honestly don’t know any other woman or man within my age group that does or would buy and wear a t-shirt that says that. So I think this whole argument is about invalid (In my mind, because it’s my opinion) as blaming eating disorders on Disney Princesses.
But maybe I’m focusing too much on the shirt. I’ll comment on solely the written text. First thing that’s wrong. Young boys aren’t expected to WHAT? IF ANYTHING, boys have it harder than girls! Boys go through puberty after us girls, which isn’t to say they don’t find thirteen year old girls attractive, but THEY struggle with their own maturity/height and overall masculinity to try and catch up with the budding girls. And god forbid a boy goes longer without having a girlfriend in middle school. What do little boys call other little boys on the playground who have never made it to first base with little Cindy? Gay. If a little girl doesn’t get to first base with little Bobby? GOOD. She’s not a lesbian, she’s just a good girl who’s waiting until marriage, or after prom to get serious.
And say little Bobby is gay, and HE KNOWS IT. He has to hide his desire from his father(Unless his father is a lovely, understanding and open man, and I hope he is) because both parents wanted their boy to go off, be manly, marry a sweet young lady and give them lots of grandchildren.
And as for married/single women in society. Women are not seen as anything different in society, unless they act it. That’s up to the woman. In fact studies show that unmarried women with no children are more productive in the workplace. I have never been in a state in my life when I’ve been pegged as unusual because I’m either single, or seeing someone. I have no idea where the ideology of women getting different treatment for being single comes from.
And for the record, when I do get married, I will be changing my last name. (Unless he likes my last name, which he should, it’s fucking awesome) I decided this not because my mom did, not because ‘society tells me to’, because it never has. I’m going to do it because when I get married it’s because I’m in love. Because I’m dedicated to my partner. I’d do anything to show my appreciation for a loved one, and changing my last name is literally the least of my problems. Miss? Mrs.? Ms.? I also could get less of a brick.
Spend more time talking and spreading awareness of things women really need to worry about. Like abusive relationships. Or cervical cancer. Women are smart creatures, don’t make them feel like a dumb barbie by insulting what they wear and what they want in their future. There is nothing wrong with wanting to get married. I want to get married when I’m older. I’m not obsessed though, but if I was, I’m not going to blame that on the makers of any t-shirts. Or anything at all.
